As a player, Coach, and/or official for over half of a century, I have learned many things…far too many to go into here in this short commentary. As a Christian and believer and follower of Jesus Christ who coaches as well as being a former player and official, the choice to place priority where it should be placed is THE most important thing we can do…period.

Below is an excerpt from Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost For His Highest devotional from April 24:

“ We (referring to Christian workers and the church) have a commercialized view – we count how many souls have been saved and sanctified, we thank God, and then we think everything is all right. Yet, our work begins where God’s grace has laid the foundation. Our work is not to save souls, but to disciple them. Salvation and sanctification are the work of God’s sovereign grace, and our work as His disciples is to disciple others’ lives until they are totally yielded to God”.

The devo wraps up with: “Whenever our Lord talked about discipleship, He always prefaced His words with an ‘if’, never with a forceful or dogmatic statement – ‘You must.’ Discipleship carries with it an option.”

If you want to know what our jobs are as coaches…there it is it, right there. Sports are the vehicle…the means…that takes us on this journey of discipleship. Sports are not the destination. Our goal should be to develop young men and women of God who love and follow Jesus who are ________ (enter your sport) players. Not __________players who are young men and women of God who love and follow Jesus. There is a difference. The difference is in the priority and focus. If the sport comes first, we are missing it.

Too many athletes, and parents too unfortunately, place priority on the sport and the outcome of that sport. The fact is, if we understand and grasp on to the reality that God loves His kids and wants us to have the desires of our hearts but wants us to desire a relationship with Him, follow Him, and give our lives to Him, trust Him with our hopes and dreams, do our best at what we do for Him because we love Him, and put Him as the priority and not the sport, we will begin to understand His heart. If we will do that…put Him as the priority and not the sport…we may or may not have or achieve the success we desire. We will get infinitely more. What we receive from God are the byproducts of our relationship with God…not the reason for it.

However, the focus is up to us and does not reside solely in the rituals and traditions we, as people, create or follow. In other words, if you are at a baseball, basketball, tennis, soccer, or volleyball tournament, track meet, race, etc…on a Sunday morning and not able to be at church or corporate worship, create church and corporate worship where you are and with those around you. That’s just not for Sundays. It is for every day. Jesus, in His earthly ministry, met people where they were. He went to them. He still does that today. He meets us where we are.

Jesus commanded us in Matthew 28 verses 19-20 to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them with the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…” He said GO to where the people are…GO to where people live, work, play. Of course, do not neglect the opportunity to worship corporately, with other believers. However, Jesus did most of His best work, changing lives, restoring hearts, healing minds, bodies, and souls outside the church as outside the brick and mortar was where the needs resided…where the lost, the sick, the broken resided. That is still true today.

And, “…teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…” – disciple them. Saving a soul, changing a heart, those are the job of the Son of God and the Holy Spirit. He is the only one who can. Our job is to walk along side, teach, model, encourage, love, and mentor…in other words, disciple…those He places in our spheres of influence. It begins with Him, then with us. We cannot teach what we do not understand. We cannot model what we do not do ourselves.

I have seen lives change and God do unbelievable heart surgery and restoration more outside the church than inside. I have seen Him show up on ballfields, courts, pool decks, and trails, in bars, yards, at concerts, on the street, you name it. I have seen it happen more outside the brick and mortar than inside. That is neither a coincidence nor a happenstance. It is reality and truth.

As coaches, we have been entrusted with a significant role with significant influence and opportunity. With that influence and opportunity come significant responsibility. Trust me. We will influence our players, their families, and others all around us. We can, and will, either lead them to someone, THE One, or away from someone. There is no third option. Don’t believe me? See John 14:6. He is the only way. It is 100% our choice. Like it or not, accept it or not, we will be held accountable for how we influence.

Until next time…

Coach, out.

Welcome. Today you get a small glimpse into the grey matter cavern that resides between my ears. The following is a work in progress and an idea/concept that has been smoldering for many, many years beneath the surface of my view of the path our great nation has been set upon. Notice that I did not say “found itself on” as that would indicate it happened by chance…by accident. I believe that to not be the case. Am I surprised? Absolutely not. Am I concerned? Yes. Otherwise, why would I be spending so much time and so much of my efforts talking, writing, and teaching about it? A burden was placed on my heart more than a quarter of a century ago that continues to weigh heavy and fuel my quest…my call. That burden: The soul and souls of America. It…they…lie in the balance.

“Educate and inform the whole mass of the people… They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.” Thomas Jefferson

There was a time that those in government saw need for an educated citizenry. Educated on all sides and from all perspectives. Now, while I do not claim to have first-hand insight or knowledge about the true intent and/or motive behind his statement, after much research, study, reflection, and reading his own words and those of so many of the other Founding Fathers, I believe he was saying that the more people who understood what was going on, how government worked, how politics worked, how freedom worked, the powers that were at play, the perils of not knowing or understanding what was at stake – namely liberty, etc…the better the chance that the greatest political experiment in the history of the world would have of succeeding. He knew. The Founders knew. If there are any doubts, simply read the Declaration of Independence. Then, the Constitution. If they do not reveal the point, I have a myriad of other titles I would be glad to share.

Where I see things today (in fact, it has been for quite some time) as it relates to the viewpoint, goals, interests, and desired outcomes of the oligarchical influence that is wielded across industry and government, which is very evident in the actions and policies of those in power, is this:

“Educating the people, teaching them to think critically, and allowing them to think for themselves will create a monster that cannot be controlled.” My quote.

Educating the citizens of the country of the process, of how government, of how politics, of how the Constitution works and ensuring they knew and understood that they, the people, and not the government, have the power would be the fly in the ointment, the rain on the parade, the snag, the bump in the road that could derail or hinder the current plan that is and has been in motion for a while.

It reminds me of a hypothetical conversation that would occur between Uncle Screwtape and his nephew Wormwood if the story was about a government official training and advising his young nephew, a young government intern/wannabe government official. If you are curious, you have to check out the book Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis. It is a must read. It will definitely make you think.

Educate the people and allow them to think for themselves and a monster is created that cannot be controlled. It is such a simple statement, it seems, but one whose basis and foundation is so deep, so substantive (if understood), so nefarious, so dystopian, so imprisoning, but so prevalent and so obvious if you are able to recognize it. Moreso…if you choose to see and accept it.

So. What does this all mean? What does the oligarchical influence seek to create, cause? What is the desired outcome…the desired condition? I call it the Struthonian Syndrome (S2).More on the name and background, shortly.

*********************

Insanity, idiocy, uneducated, lazy, misinformed and so many other descriptors of people today…of all ages. But, why is that? And, who actually bears the responsibility? Better yet…what is the cause?

Definitions are critical with premises such as this. Actually, definitions are critical with any conversation or discussion as they establish a baseline and common “lens”. Why is this important? Because everyone has a different perspective, a different set of lenses by which they view life, circumstances, events, etc…This perspective is the result of life experiences, belief systems, etc… We see it every day…everywhere. Words can have multiple definitions and understandings. Here is an example via a very basic exchange and one that I am sure all are very familiar with:

Me: “How are you today?”

You: “I’m Good. You?”

Me: “I’m Good.”

Well…what does “good” mean? There is an almost certainty that my good and your good are not the same. Our exchange, while cordial, provided absolutely zero information other than we are both…good.

As a head baseball coach for over 25 years, I found out early on that my question and answer session with my players provided as much information as the hypothetical, yet all too real, exchange provided earlier. My solution: I had my players give me a number. When I asked how they were, how their bodies felt, how their arms felt, whatever the subject of my inquiry, they had to give me a number between 1 and 10 with 1 being the absolute worst, barely breathing and on death’s doorstep, and 10 being they could not be better, stronger, and that they felt so good that at any moment a plane carrying the Avengers would land enroute to pick up my player and then head out on their collective mission to save the universe…again. While I am not exactly sure what a 3, a 5, or a 7 would completely entail, I had a much better idea of how they were feeling, how their arms felt, etc…with the number they gave me as opposed to…”good.” I am going somewhere with this. I assure you.

This, by the way, what I am referring to is a practice that is not used enough…defining terms and establishing commonality. If you haven’t listened to some my previous podcasts, I encourage you to head over to www.servantwarriorpodcast.org and listen to all of them, but two in particular will help you better understand what I will be talking about here: Episode 3 – January 23, 2024, Deciphering Today’s Information Onslaught and Answering the Question of “Why” every decision has ever been made. and Episode 6 – February 1, 2024 – Controlling the Message and Senate Skewering of Social Media CEO’s. Check them out. It may even be worth a listen either before you continue or after you finish and then re-read. I have no doubt you will want to as then you will realize the incredible pot of thought-provoking gold that you have found, providing you with all kinds of gold and conversation ammo when you head out to your next neighborhood cul-de-sac party, family gathering, or school event.

I digress…

Varied perspectives create significant misunderstandings, which in no way shape or form is a bad thing. In fact, it is what our country is founded upon… “We hold these truths to be self-evident. That all men are created equal. Endowed by their Creator will certain inalienable rights that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” In other words, all people are different…but equal in their God granted natural rights based simply on being human. Rights…freedom…are granted by God the Creator. Capital “C”. And, according to our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution, the government’s role is to ensure and protect those right…not be the grantor of them.

I don’t want to get off task here, but I always want to ensure, as best I can, some insight into my direction, thought process, and the lens I am using to view this informational picture. As such, I’ll provide definitions all throughout.

Here are a few to start:

Insanity- doing the same thing over and again but expecting different results.

Idiocy – either not acknowledging or not knowing that every decision being made by everyone, every agency, every government official, every news outlet, etc…, is done so motivated by their own self interest.

Laziness – lack of effort to actually look into issues, background, events, policies, decisions, actions, etc…to better understand the why. Just accepting what is heard, seen, read, etc…is truth. Given the level of subjective truth, I would question whether people actually believe anything is true…other than what they experience. And even then, they may not. With AI and technology, almost anything can be manipulated – images, voices, etc… We cannot believe what we see anymore, what we hear anymore, certainly not what we read anymore. Who is at fault? With regards to subjective truth, I mean?

Now, if you have read anything I have written or listened to any of my podcasts, talks, or lessons, you will see and hear me speak often of expression and freedom of expression. This is a subject for another day as it becomes very tricky. Freedom of speech and expression exists. It is a right protected by the Consitution and another natural right granted by God. And, we are free to say whatever we choose and express our speech in whatever ways we choose. However, we are not free from the repercussions…which brings an entirely different set of understandings into play. Rule of law, its application, who is in charge, the current political and cultural climate, the “flavor of the day”, and so on…all of these play a significant role in the application of the rule of law and the law itself, policies, desires, etc… We can certainly dive into all of this some other time as it is a really fun and interesting conversation and analysis. Just know this: anytime the government gets involved in a dispute about speech and/or expression, someone’s right are going to be infringed upon. That is why an understanding of the rule of law, its application, who is in charge, the political and cultural climate, the “flavor of the day”, and so on is so important. But, back to the issue at hand…

Uneducated – often mis-defined. Uneducated simply means lacking knowledge and/or understanding. It could be about a subject or just an overall lacking. People are uneducated in the way things work – government, policy, business, education, economics, etc… Some of the uneducatedness (my definition of educatedness is forthcoming) is the fault of the student (information recipients), but much of it is the purposeful actions and intention of the teachers (information deliverers). I’ll get more into that in a few.

Reality:  Some of the most educated, meaning a gaining or a development of knowledge from the world of academia, are some of the most uneducated, with regards to understanding how things work, people walking on the planet. In that same light, there are way more people than one might think who have very little knowledge gained from the world of academia but who are very educated in the “how things work” realm.

I share this often with students and people who will listen. Every theory in academia works. Every plan, in theory, works. However, when most plans and theories have their first brush with reality, they often end in horrible failure. It’s why planned economies and socialism have never worked. Why people do what they do and want what they want cannot be planned. This is a subject for future episodes of the podcast. But…I will touch a bit on the desire of the “planners” here shortly.

Put all that together, and you get what I introduced earlier…the Struthonian Syndrome. I’ll often refer to it as S².

Before things get out of hand, I feel as though I need to provide some background into the name and into the theory.

Struthonian is a word that was invented in 1963 by Arthur Koestler, a Hungarian born author and journalist.  He used it in an article he wrote in Encounter magazine that year, to describe “pundits who prefer honest self-deception to ignoble truths“. (Ignoble means: of low character, aims, etc. of low grade or quality; inferior.)

In other words, it figuratively refers to individuals who hide their head in the sand rather than face basic and/or obvious truths.

Struthonian is from the Latin struthio, an ostrich. Related to it is the standard — albeit technical — English struthious, of or like an ostrich.

According to World-Wide Words (https://www.worldwidewords.org/weirdwords/ww-str2.htm ) and confirmed by other sources, an ancient, rare and defunct name for the bird was struthiocamel, from Latin struthiocamelus. The Romans took it wrongly from Greek strouthokamelos, literally “sparrow camel” or, more loosely, “camel-bird” (the scientific name of the ostrich to this day is Struthio camelus).

“Another Greek name for the ostrich was megas strouthos, big sparrow or big bird. In later Latin its name became avis struthio, the struthio bird. Incidentally, ostrich also ultimately comes from avis struthio, since the v changed later to a vowel and was further mangled in its passage through Old French (much the same thing happened with French oiseau, bird, also from avis via the late Latin aucellus).” https://www.worldwidewords.org/weirdwords/ww-str2.htm

So…what I am talking about is my theory and assertion named the Ostrich Syndrome. Actually, better named… Struthonian Syndrome. Why? Because I like it. It is not common. And, it relates exactly to what I want it to.

Now…let me be transparent and forthright immediately out of the gate. The Struthonian Syndrome, or S2 from here on out, is not to be confused with the Ostrich Effect, which is a cognitive bias that causes people to avoid information that they perceive as potentially unpleasant…like not looking at bills because they don’t want to see how far behind on payments they are or how the statements will reveal how much in debt they are. Nor is it to be confused with what others call the Ostrich Syndrome…which is essentially defined the same as the aforementioned Ostrich Effect.

My theory and assertion, the Struthonian Syndrome (S2), and the Ostrich Effect/Ostrich Syndrome (referred to from here further as OE/OS) mentioned earlier, while similar, are quite different. One, OE/OS is a choice resulting from the personal negatives associated with the information or knowledge that is being avoided, and the other, S2, results primarily from the actions, reflecting particular intent/motives, of an information deliverer (referred to from here further as teacher) and, to a smaller extent, the choices by the information recipient (referred to from here further as student).

Time for more definitions:

Student – recipient of information or information recipient

Teacher – deliverer of the information or information deliverer

Note: I use the terms student and teacher from the simple standpoint that they provide a common understanding. Teachers teach and students learn. Teachers are sources of information and deliver such information with the goal and intention to educate those who receive the information, students, and for those who receive the information to use it in gaining an understanding or level of knowledge about a particular subject. All of this is done with a desired outcome as the goal. That goal being, the student, or recipient of the information, will believe the information, be influenced by the information, and will use the information in manner in which it was delivered.

Educatedness – the level of actual understanding and/or education on how business, politics, government, economics, information manipulation, etc… overall life and reality actually work.

O.E./O.S. – Ostrich Effect/Ostrich Syndrome: defined as provided earlier – a cognitive bias that causes people to avoid information that they perceive as potentially unpleasant.

Struthonian Syndrome (S2)–  as defined by me. See definition below.

Struthonian Syndrome (S2) can manifest itself in two ways. Information being delivered is manipulated to the extent that the recipient of information (student):

  1. Cannot discern neither fact from fiction nor the response desired by the information deliverer (teacher) so as to display behavior that shows the student believes what the teacher wants the student to believe and thus provides a response that reflects a level of uneducatedness because it appears like the student has their head in the sand and oblivious to the reality of what is actually going on.
  2. The student, while having a high level of educatedness, becomes discouraged in their pursuit of the reality that is occurring and is worn down enough so as to eventually succumbs to the desired response of the teacher because the student reaches the point that either they feel their efforts have no impact on the outcome or thought process of other students or the information is manipulated to the point that the student falls into the description provided in number 1.

I will get into more details as we go, but here is the basic differentiator: while essentially both have to do ultimately with the decisions of the student, OE/OS deals with how a student chooses to deal with the reality of the information received, Struthonian Syndrome (S2) is the outcome resulting more from the information being delivered and the impact that information has on the choices being made and actions being taken. Bottom line: One is a denial of actual reality and the other results in actions (choices) either based on what is believed to be reality and/or the eventual wearing down leading to a lack desire to try to discern or to impact/influence.

Another MAJOR distinction and point to share before moving forward: while it may seem that Struthonian Syndrome (S2) is a theory that removes accountability and responsibility from the information recipient (student) and places it on the information deliverer (teacher), Struthonian Syndrome (S2) results from actually using the information to make choices/decisions and/or the actions of the student reflect usage of the information. OE/OS is solely about the choices of the student to NOT use the information as it would create an acknowledgment of a true reality that exists.

If you are a reader of scholarly articles and research, you may see a similarity to my Struthonian Syndrome (S2) theory and Informational Manipulation Theory. Here is the difference: Informational Manipulation is what I describe when providing the causes of S2. In other words, Informational Manipulation is a cause of Struthonian Syndrome (S2).

“Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” George Orwell from his novel, “1984”.

While this might fire up a whole bunch of folks and get me into a bit of hot water, an objective and critical look at facts and history will support my assertion. That assertion is, people in power desire a mass outbreak of Struthonian Syndrome (S2).

As the global community becomes smaller and smaller due to technology, people have a desire to know what is going on everywhere. The only way to get that information is to be online. Traditional cable news and or informational outlets cannot provide real time information.

TRUTH: Perspectives and positions are created, established, furthered, etc… when information collides with understanding.

The level of understanding a student has will determine the level of influence, and/or effectiveness (effectiveness = the desired reaction or response of the student [information recipient] that is/was achieved) the teacher (information deliverer) attained.

The following equations are certainly well known amongst the oligarchical influencers:

↑Understanding of Student = ↓Effectiveness of Teacher

↓Understanding of Student = ↑Effectiveness of Teacher

The greater the level of understanding, the less influence will be had, less effective (↓Effectiveness).

Subsequently, the lower the level of understanding, the more influence will be had, more effective (↑Effectiveness).

The fear of the government, power holders, etc…is a citizenry with a high level of educatedness. Let’s look at some evidence:

It is why students are taught what to say, what to do, and are rewarded with a grade that serves as a key to open the doors of higher learning…higher levels of being taught what to say, what to do. Challenge what is being shared by the teacher, and the student is penalized with a low grade. Low grades mean little advancement, little opportunity. Higher grades, the opposite.

If a student is incapable of achieving higher grades, the student is relegated to the lower end of the life spectrum where reliance on another, sometimes even the teacher, becomes their only means of survival.

Students who have a higher level of understanding and who challenge the teacher and/or the information, other means are attempted to restrain the students’ advancement.

With regards to advanced courses, all one has to do is look at the curriculums and then juxtapose the curriculum with the ideological slants of academia, K12 – “higher learning” institutions. The desired goal is clear.

In the book, the Naked Communist by Cleon Skoussen, published back in 1962, he provides 45 goals of the communist ideology. Within those 43, ideological subversion and attaining the means to manipulate information can clearly be seen. Below was taken from the Congressional Record, January 10, 1963, delivered to the US House of Representatives by the Honorable Mr. A.S. Herlong, Jr. of Florida, on the goals of the Communist Party:

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Thursday, January 10, 1963.

Mr. HERLONG: Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America. At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an excerpt from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen: [From “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen] CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS:

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament by the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev’s promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up ‘as a one-world government with its own Independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office. 15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.”

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. “Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art.”

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity, as “normal, natural, healthy.” 27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.”

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression n the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.”

29. Discredit the America Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.”

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture-education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on UnAmerican Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand or treat.

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use united force to solve economic, political or social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction over nations and Individuals alike.

It is very difficult to ignore the glaring “prophesies” that have come to pass. If I may, let me bring to your attention some of the goals in particular: 6, 11-13, 15-32, and 36-45…with a major emphasis on #40. More on those in coming posts and podcasts.

Context, insight, discernment, wisdom, etc… all come from the intersection of knowledge, understanding, and experience.

Consider social media. Platforms residing and running on a base of algorithms that provide desired content at a level that comes just to the edge of satisfying the student and then offers up a bit more of this and a bit more of that…all keeping the student fixated on content that neither increases educatedness nor provides any substantive benefit other than momentarily meeting the instant want and desire of the student but, and this is where the darkness enters, also meeting the want and desire of the teacher…which is to distract and influence. Reminder of the equations:

↑Understanding of Student = ↓Effectiveness of Teacher

↓Understanding of Student = ↑Effectiveness of Teacher

Essentially all empirical data, surveys, man-on-the-street interviews, and more, regarding where Generations Y and Z, and far too many of the Gen X’ers I must say, get their news/information reveal that social media is their primary source. Additionally, the same groups have admitted that they know and capitulate to the fact that the overwhelming percentage of what is shared online is either completely false or is at such a level of misinformation that it can only be deemed tabloid’esque. In other words, it is like everyone getting their news from the National Enquirer, Star, Weekly World News, etc… If those examples dated me, perhaps Babylon Bee would be a more up-to-date example. By the way, if you have not seen Babylon Bee, you are missing out. Sorry. Back to it.

If the overwhelming amount of information that is disseminated through the informational onslaught that is deployed 24/7/365 is not factual, the question HAS to be: How do members of Gen Y and Gen Z develop a foundational belief system that they can use to decipher fact from fiction…and even the level of truth that exists in the facts?

The answer: they cannot.

Truth: If you control the message, you control…EVERYTHING.

Hence… Struthonian Syndrome (S2).

Before you leave, scroll back up and take one more look at the definition of Struthonian Syndrome (S2). You will want to keep it fresh in the mind as you navigate your way through the minefield of information and messaging you will be exposed to once you leave here. But, I hope you will return often…if only to see what else has popped into the grey matter.

By the way, we have only scratched the surface as I have shared only the tip of the Struthonian Syndrome iceberg. More to come. Stay tuned. Until next time, keep it Real, Radical, Relentless, and Relevant.

Searcy, out.

The more I watch the news…the more I cannot stand the news. That is true for both, dare I say all, sides of the political and/or ideological scale. It is about catering to audiences. I get it. Talk radio is no different. It’s not a condemnation. It’s reality. It pays the bills and salaries. Hey, I’m a capitalist and free market fan. I’m also a self proclaimed political philosopher. I love the “why’s”. I look at things in multiple layers and from multiple perspectives. Here is the unfortunate reality of so much of the media and news today; Rarely does it promote free thinking. It often drives people to other sources of news, information, entertainment, and sometimes even perspective and/or confirmation or away completely from any kind of news. Which, in itself, creates all kind of craziness. This craziness could be both positive and negative.

Unfortunately, I cannot seem to find a source of information, entertainment, and perspective that fits me. It seems that so many are about finding the wrong or the issue as opposed to looking at things a different way, thinking about both sides, all sides. It’s less about promoting or encouraging free thinking and more about directing thinking. I’m a thinker. I challenge norms and think beyond the surface. Yes, I have my beliefs and foundational principles that guide me and that sustain me. However, they do not restrict my thinking. In fact, it is quite the opposite. When we own our perspective and do not borrow someone else’s, it frees us to think, to question, to challenge because we are confident in who we are and what we believe and hold true. Having a set of foundational guidelines and principles can do one of two things. One, we can be so immovable in our beliefs that we close off our minds to any other perspective. Or, two, and more preferable, that it strengthens our intellectual courage to open our minds to other perspectives. This will either reenforce our perspective, cause us to think further about our perspective, or even to challenge our perspective and cause us to rethink it, possibly even changing it. If we don’t know where we are going, any way will get us there. While that could be fun and exciting, the roads in that journey can be frought with all kinds of peril.

Here is the question to me that I have been posing to me for quite some time…over a decade. If you can’t find a source that fits you, that gives you the information and content you want and an environment that is different…solution oriented not simply exposing the problems…then create one. Chances are, others need it as well.

Here is the thing. I already have. Servant Warrior™ Radio…the answer? The answer!

More about the road ahead in the posts ahead.

Until then…keep it real.

How can academia tout critical thinking, individuality, tolerance, etc…when students are are not allowed to be who they are and teachers do not know how to be genuine, true to their convictions, while also fostering a classroom environment conducive to critical thinking, civil discourse, questions and answers, the exchanging of ideas – both agreed upon and disagreed upon, and allowing the students the chance to learn and establish their own perspectives, stances, and opinions?

As I will be sharing more in subsequent posts, articles, and on Servant Warrior™ Radio in the coming weeks and months, teachers have to consider the “why’s” at varied perspectives and students have to consider them as peers.

But, here is where the harsh reality of my points take front and center. What happens when teachers get tough questions like should abortion be legal and whether Roe v Wade is Constitutional? What about questions surrounding gun control? What about fossil fuels vs alternative energy sources? Immigration reform and border security? How about universal healthcare vs private healthcare? The list can go on and on. To pretend that these questions are not going to be asked is very similar to an old military saying about putting your head in the sand during a firefight. You know what happens? You get shot in the south end of your north bound direction.

We, as teachers, have to be ready for these questions. And, we have to have honest, purposeful, and objective conversations about them as we are the authority figures and can have a tremendous influence on a student’s beliefs. If we want them to and are challenging them to think critically, we have to make sure we understand and are clear about the context of the answer, the discussion, and absolutely refer to and consider my 3P’s of Information: Position, Purpose, and Perspective. All of these issues have significant ideological beliefs around them and can bring, dare I say, spirited debate and discussion.

Unfortunately, I do not think many teachers are truly considering, if these questions are not beings asked in their classrooms…WHY? Why are students not asking these questions? I can assure you they are hearing about them, inquiring about them, and talking about them elsewhere. Some of the reasons I believe are that students afraid of backlash or attacks if the question is controversial. They are afraid of looking stupid, inept, or being ridiculed by classmates. They are afraid of being asked follow-up questions about the issue and not be able to discuss or answer intelligently. And, this is likely one of the most impactful reasons, students are afraid that if they believe differently than the teacher, there could potentially be reprisal or even alienation directed at the student by the teacher as well as other students. I am just being honest.

Students learn from teachers. Teachers are human beings, with beliefs and perspectives. Students interact with other students who are also human beings…human beings with perspectives. The idea that teachers must be void of who they are or have no personality or perspective in the classroom only shows that too many teachers are incapable of creating environments where their ideologies do not get on the way of learning but shows students, the future generations, that people can and will disagree but that teaching and learning can happen in spite of differing opinions.

If we want civil, effective discourse in the public square, we have to be allowed to have civil and effective discourse in the public classrooms.  Otherwise, how will students learn how to engage in civilized, effective, and intelligent discourse if it is not modeled and fostered in an environment that will ensure all perspectives are treated with importance but none more than the other?

Society, as driven predominantly by social media, is wholly incapable of teaching generations of students how to have a conversation with someone they do not agree with or to even acknowledge, with any level of consideration or respect, that someone may have a different opinion than their own. The ability to agree to disagree has been lost for some time. Cancelation, verbal assaults, censorship, character assassinations, etc…have become more commonplace than simply reaching the point where neither side will change their positions and both walking away…even shaking hands. We are emphatic and insistent that those who don’t share our views must…at all cost.

The classroom is where tough questions should be asked. If a teacher is prepared to answer tough questions because they have set parameters, expectations, guidelines, and discussion guard rails, students get a taste of what life is like to disagree without going to war or, in today’s terminology, “canceling the other”. We have lost the ability to disagree and be okay with it, especially on social media. Intellectual courage is becoming more and more nonexistent. If you are curious about intellectual courage, stay tuned and check out more blog posts and episodes of Servant Warrior™ Radio.

If I may, let me tell a story about a couple of men and some trees…

One day, a man was in a grove sitting and reading beneath a large tree when he heard another man standing beneath another tree, screaming at it to uproot itself and move to another location. The first man found this entertaining, then intriguing, and then a bit irritating. But, he continued to watch.

The screaming continued but tree did not move. This only infuriated the man. He began to scream louder, cursing and insulting the tree…and all of the other trees that were within earshot of his verbal tirade.

The man got up from his seat and walked over to the other. “Sir”, he said, “why are you screaming at the tree? You know that no matter how hard you scream at or insult the tree, it will not move.”

“Who are you?! ” asked the irate gentleman. “Who are you to tell me what I can and cannot say? Who are YOU to tell ME anything?! I can say whatever I want! And, what I want is for this tree to move! I want it over there!”

The man walked back over to his tree, sat down, and pondered his options. He had a decision to make. He could go back over to other man and argue with him of the ridiculousness of his actions and verbal assault on the tree. He knew he was right and that that tree was not moving. He could sit, watch and listen to the man continue his tirade against the tree. He knew doing this, while fun for a time, would take him away from his own book. He also knew the tirade would eventually impact him and could bring him to the point of going back over and engaging the other man. Or the man, knowing his propensity for engagement, could find another tree in a grove where he could read and where people do not scream at trees to uproot and move.

He gave the matter great thought and decided to…

I will leave it there. It is certainly something to consider when observing others and their ideological perspectives, opinions, and actions.

Until next time, keep it real.

Hello, all. We are on the doorstep of arguably the most important elections in our nation’s history. Despite the normal party speak, political narratives pushed, and all too often doublespeak by folks on both sides, there is a clear ideological distinction between the dominant US political parties. I hope I am stating the obvious. Something tells me that might not be the case.

What we have before us is monumental. Not only the election but the potential confirmation of a Supreme Court justice.

I am not going into the talking points being pushed by both sides. I will, however, clarify a term that has a become a political narrative being pushed because far too many in our country don’t understand.

Before my SCOTUS comments, I do want to comment on a statement made by the Democratic candidate for President as it is 100% Constitutional what is happening with regards to the filling of a Supreme Court Justice vacancy. I am not going to get into the muck about it. I must believe that he does have an understanding of the US Constitution, given his lengthy time in the US Senate and that he has raised his hand to support and defend it on more than one occasion. However, regardless of whether one agrees or disagrees with the actions of an opposing party, it is concerning that a candidate for the highest office in the US and the most powerful office in the world would knowing attempt to mislead the American people and misrepresent the Constitutionality of an action. Both sides of the political isle like to stretch things. However, the Constitution is our governing document and thus should be known and followed. I will speak to this issue in subsequent posts.

What I will talk briefly about is the importance of Constitutional adherence and how anyone, if they do not support strict adherence to the Constitution in its judicial application of jurisprudence, it is wholly hypocritical and disingenuous to use it as a pass and/or misrepresenting it as a talking point in order to further an agenda.

Let me provide some definitions to terms that I think are incredibly important.

Court Packing: simply means to increase the number of Supreme Court Justices. FDR tried it in the 1930’s but was unsuccessful. The Appointment of SCOTUS judges is a Constitutional power found in Art 2 Sect 2 – appointed by the President and Confirmed by the Senate. It is much harder to confirm justices when the White House is controlled by one party and the Senate is controlled by another. It is much easier if they are the same party. Yes, elections do have consequences.

Judicial Philosophy: This is the underlying set of ideals or beliefs that shapes a Justice’s rulings on particular cases. This is ALWAYS the basis by which Justices are chosen. There are 2 distinct philosophies. One is a philosophy that means to go beyond the words of the Constitution or a statute to consider broader societal implications and influence public policy. This is known as Judicial Activism. Some may also refer to judicial activism as “legislating from the bench”. The other is Judicial Restraint, which is the judicial philosophy to not go outside the narrow scope created by the Constitution.

Why is this important? Well, if you will go back to a previous posting I made with regards to the correlation between the Bible and the US Constitution, The Constitutional argument: It’s all about choice. The direct correlation between the Bible and the Constitution, and the societal drift from both. Dismiss at your own risk, I stated that we, as a country and people in general – “don’t like absolutes. We don’t like to be told what to do. We like the rules of the game to change as we change…or as we want the rules of the game to change. The Bible, like the Constitution, provides absolutes and authority. The further we get away from its principles, its guidelines, its authority, the further away we get from allowing a single authoritative component, in this case: a document, to govern us.”

Again, why is this important? Here is why. The current judge who has been nominated for the United States Supreme Court, Amy Coney Barrett, has been attacked for her strong Christian faith, her values as a mother and parent, and to her strict adherence to the Constitution and to the intent of the Original Framers, which of course includes the Bill of Rights and the other 17 Amendments. With so many in our country, to include elected officials screaming that the confirmation hearings and the confirmation itself is unconstitutional (which is categorically false – see again Art 2 Sect 2 in the US Constitution), love to scream about the Constitution, more importantly the rights protected by the US Constitution, should absolutely embrace and celebrate a potential US Supreme Court Justice to the highest Court in the land who would not read into or stretch the text or meaning of the Constitution in order to impact or influence social policy or either side of the political isle, but to adhere to what it states and what its Framers intended. Very similar to the Bible, adherence to its principles and to the intent of the Author, would be a very welcome stance for the longest standing governmental document and set of governing principles of any country in recorded history.

The United States Constitution, like the Bible, is NOT a living breathing document. “The Bible provides absolutism…clear right and wrong. The Bible gives a clear set of guidelines to live one’s life by. And just as the Bible provides guidelines on how we, as people, are to live, the Constitution provides guidelines on how to govern.”

Adherence to the Constitution and the guidelines set within it is the only way that we can ensure that “…government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” – A Lincoln.

Searcy, out.

Truth: We all see things differently. I see things from multiple perspectives, from multiple positions, and from multiple angles…encompassing much more than most would associate together or see the correlation. That’s not a slight on anyone. That’s simply the way my mind works and the way I see things…global picture to speck of dirt…75,000ft above the ground to a quarter inch from the pavement.

No names but I had someone provide some “humble” advice as to my delivery and to correct me on my usage of the term socialism. The response was to my OpEd from yesterday, “The Threat From Within”. And, the comment and a subsequent one came via Facebook. I don’t know know why this one pushed a button, but it did. The commentator provided me some pointers in a few areas and stated that “we” (funny… I didn’t realize “we” were doing anything. Sorry. I know the polite condescending nature of using the “we”. I’m ashamed to admit I’ve used it myself. It is almost like a “bless your heart”.) I digress…would do better educating people with the right definition of socialism as it is where the government owns the means of production.”

Ladies and gentlemen, government control of production and the supply of goods and services, whether by direct action, policy or legislation, by proxy, or by shutting down private business…is socialism and a threat to our constitutional republic and our way of life in America. Pure and simple. I am not going to get into a social media debate with anyone. I will be glad to turn on the microphones and we can have a discussion via Servant Warrior Radio. Like any American should be, I am ready to discuss this via the narrow-minded halls of much of academia or the ruthless by-ways of the streets. I’m well versed in both.

If I am perceived to be pushing a particular narrative, trust me, I am not. My perspective and opinion are mine alone. If my perspective is similar to others out there, good for them. Make no mistake. My thoughts and opinions are mine.

With regards to commentary on my blog posts, I am glad to get them. It means I’ve struck a nerve and sparked action. I’ve accomplished my goal. If the commentator chooses to comment on a blog post that resides on my website and make the comment via social media, I begin to question the motive. I wonder if the comments are for me or for others. I think it’s likely a little of both. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Why? Because every opinion is important. Every perspective is important. And all are free to share. That’s America. However, we all should be very careful when we direct our opinions to a specific person…especially when it is unsolicited. That is why social media is in the state that it is in and why there is so much strife and division in our country. Here’s my take: read my posts or don’t. It’s completely up to you. There’s plenty out there to fill the time. Regardless of what you decide, it’s all good. Searcy, out.

Many in the united states have this feeling in their stomach that our country is headed toward socialism. Nothing could be more true. The desire to rewrite, ignore, and/or destroy history is paving the way. All one needs to do is look back at early 20th century Europe…specifically Italy and Germany. The coordinated effort to remove competition within the economies in order to foster monopolies, monopolies supported by the government, that occurred in Europe then is now happening here in the US. Think about the shutdown of the economy…the shutdown of businesses in this country, many of them still closed now for 6 months, under the guise of safety and health due to a virus that has a 99+% survival rate. Think about the businesses that were allowed to remain open during the “pandemic”. There are enemies to our republic and to our capitalistic way of life on both sides of the political isle. One side is obvious. One side is a bit more covert. While I recognize the threat that China and other state-run economies pose to the US, neither the President of the US nor the US government should ever be brokering corporate purchases. Once again, a governmental action sought under the guise of national security. At what point does this stop? At what point, regardless of the political ideology that is in the majority in Washington DC or any state or locality, do we as a citizenry hold our elected officials and our governments at the local, state, and federal levels accountable? I will tell you when…when we as a citizenry are truly honest in our assessment of the state and condition of our society – regardless of our ideological beliefs – and the cause of its decline. When we become knowledgeable about our Constitution and our Capitalistic economic system, the ideals that provide the foundation of our country, and the limited government that was created by our Framers. That’s when. There is a serious threat to the future of this country and that threat is from within. The biggest threat to our country and our way of life is…America itself and what we are allowing to permeate our government, our schools, our media, and our lives.

“We were the first to assert that the more complicated the forms assumed by civilization, the more restricted the freedom of the individual must become.” Benito Mussolini

Let that sink in and give honest thought to the applicability.

If you do not think American exceptionalism and the freedoms ensured by our Constitution and secured by the blood and lives of patriots are in serious peril by those entrusted to govern, to teach, and to inform, your lack of vision and/or your willingness to ignore the obvious, are only contributing to the American demise and to paving the dead end road to “serfdom”.

Searcy out.

November…I’m so glad you’re here. The crispness of the air, the browns…oranges…reds of the trees…the smell of pumpkin pie (of course from all the pumpkins that survived Halloween…only to be carved up and cooked for dessert)…all serve as subtle reminders that winter is slowly approaching and, more importantly…Thanksgiving! As Americans, we have so much to be thankful for. We’re rich beyond comprehension and live and worship freely in the greatest country in the history of the world…protected by the greatest fighting force the world has ever known…the United States Military.  This Veterans Day (Nov 11) and every day, I want to express my humble thanks to warriors, past-present-future, and their families, for their service to this country and for being willing to make the ultimate sacrifice that so many have made…to lay down their life for another.

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. (John 15:13 NIV).

There is a powerful parallel between Christ’s words to His disciples and the brave men and women who serve in our nation’s Armed Forces. You know, there are many reasons why people join the military. Some do it out of a feeling of patriotism or duty. Others see the military as an opportunity and/or pathway to a better life. Whatever the reason that caused the ‘called’ to step forward…to join something that’s bigger than themselves…to put their right hand in the air and swear to serve and defend America from all enemies, foreign and domestic…so help them God, it doesn’t take long before we realize that it’s not necessarily the “what” we serve and fight for…but the “who”…our friends…our fellow warriors…often they are one in the same…our families…those that we share the battles with on so many more fronts than just the battle front…that become our primary motivation and the fuel that drives us and becomes something much more powerful than the idea or ideal that first sparked our actions.

I’ll always have a very special place in my heart for the chapel on the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, SC. During Boot Camp, Sunday service was a very special time. Every recruit went to church…whether they were believers or not. For some, it was the first time they ever walked through the doors of a church. For others, it was a reprieve from the training…the Drill Instructors…the stress. For me, there was an aspect of it that provided a sense of normalcy and a taste of home. More so, it was about an aspiring servant warrior wanting to get closer to and worship the mightiest Warrior, the first Servant Warrior, and bring Him into my new world. Of course, He was already there with me. I remember, like it was yesterday, standing in that chapel singing the “Battle Hymn of the Republic” and the indescribable feeling of pride that rushed through me. I can also feel the tears that literally streamed down my face as I was a part of a Marine congregation singing: “In the beauty of the lilies, Christ was born across the Sea, With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me; As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free, While God is marching on. They weren’t tears of fear…but of pride…and willing sacrifice. They were tears of the realization that Jesus Christ willingly went to the cross and gave His life for me…for my freedom from the bondage of sin…and that I, if necessary, was willing to give my life for another. While I was never called upon to give my life for another…so many others were. They followed the ultimate example of sacrifice and of love for each other…for those they knew…and even more they didn’t.

In the years since my time at Parris Island and in the Marine Corps, God has revealed so many things to me. One overwhelming truth is that the military community desperately needs a Savior…a Friend…THE Friend. They need to know “…there is a Friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Prov 18:24(NIV). While bodies have been damaged…it is the spirits and hearts that have suffered the gravest wounds. The greatest casualty is not being forgotten. It’s forgetting that the only One who can truly heal a heart and restore a spirit has never left nor forsaken us…but stands at the door…knocking…waiting. All that is required of us to do…is open it.

Oh yea…one more thing…To all fellow Marines, past and present…Happy 239th Birthday. Semper Fi. “If the Army and the Navy ever look on Heaven’s scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines.”Marine’s Hymn. Ooorah!! Until next time, Rock On…& Armor Up!

“The Struggle”

Romans 7:19

If I hear anyone saying that being a Christian is easy, I wonder whether they are living in the same world I am. I never will question anyone’s faith as our testimony is the ONE thing that can never be questioned. What Christ has done in the life of an individual is something no one can question…even though it happens more often than it should. However, being a follower of Christ, dying to Him daily, and doing what we know we want to do and are supposed to do is something that is not easily accomplished given the inherent nature of sin that resides in all of us. The apostle Paul, the author of 13 books in the Bible, faced the same struggles as we do today with doing what we know we shouldn’t and don’t want to do in spite of our relationship and love of Christ. In the book of Romans, Paul got very real with his fellow Gentiles when he said, “And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.” (Romans 7:18-19 NLT) We beat ourselves up when we do something we know we shouldn’t and often feel we should “pack up and go home” in regards to our walk with Christ because a voice we hear says, “a Christian doesn’t live that way…or do that. You’re a poser…a fake…a hypocrite. You can’t impact anyone for the Kingdom.” That, my friends, is the voice of the THE liar and comes directly from the pit of Hell. Ineffective and worthless to the Kingdom is exactly what the devil wants us to hear…and believe…because if we believe him, we no longer pose a threat. Don’t listen to him. Tell him to sell that somewhere else because we know in Whom our victory lies. Remind the devil that we know how the story ends.

Challenge:   One of the most effective tactics of the enemy is to remind us how far we fall short of perfection…of a sinless life. There has been only One who has lived a sinless life on this earth…and none of us are Him. Remember, God’s word tell us, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin.” (Romans 3:24-25a). “We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your faithfulness. Thank you for loving us…in spite of us. We fall so short of Your glory. Yet You still see us as holy…all because of Your Son, Jesus. Lord, give us the strength to call on Your name when the evil one attacks us with lies and deception as the devil has to flee when we call on Your name. Thank you for Your assurance of victory and everlasting life…all through Jesus Christ. In His name we pray. Amen.

SWM logo final 4-2012 Hello, May. Wow…summer is almost here. I know you’re pumped! Before I get started, I would like to remind you that this month we honor some very, very  important people: Mothers ( Mother’s Day – May 11th) and those military personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country (Memorial Day  –  May 26th). I cannot road picthink of two groups of people who deserve our thanks more. So to mothers everywhere, we  say “Thanks, Mom. We love you. You’re the best.” And to the families of and in memory of those men and women  who made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure our freedom and way of life, with humble adoration and the utmost    respect, “Thank you.”

Now…let’s get on with it. We are continuing the Road Trip 2014 Series this month with “What’s Under the Hood?”  I think you’re going to like it…relate to it…maybe even experience a little uneasiness as it just may hit a bit too close to home. Hey…just sharing the Truth. It’s all good…and well worth the time.

And away we go! Let me set it up for you. You and couple of buddies emerge from the local gas and guzzle with some large cups of coffee…or Mountain Dew… headed back to your monster crew cab man machine that resides next to the pump that just delivered way too much gas to your ride. You guys climb back in and get back onto the interstate. A mile or so up the road you get the fortune of getting stuck behind a beat up, two-toned, primered, late 60’s model Camaro that, from the outside, looked to be lucky to be holding together and certainly didn’t appear to be interstate worthy…not to mention it was being driven by an elderly gentleman. Of course, conversation in the truck between you and your buddies ensued that was not necessarily favorable to the machine or the driver a hundred feet or so ahead of you. Now, in an attempt to get out of your way, the older gentleman and his Camaro found themselves pulling in front of a jet black, tricked out, and super nice Mustang convertible with the top down and the 30 something who is driving, and from the way he was going at it on his cell was obviously making the business deal of his life, clearly felt as though the nice gentleman who just pulled in front of him didn’t share his sense of urgency. Unfortunately, the traffic was such that would not allow the Stang to pass the ‘Maro. So…the young buck almost found himself in the trunk of the old guy’s car a few times as he was clearly agitated.

Now, you and your buddies are watching this unfold and likely have some mixed feelings about it…some sympathy for the older gent and empathy with the young stud. Hang with me…it’s about to get good. The young guy gets the opportunity to go around the older gentleman but instead of passing him and going about his day, he feels Camaro the need to express his agitation about being held up. So, he pulls in front of the Camaro and slows down causing the  older gentleman to have to put on his brakes. The young guy revs his little rocket a few times in front of the old guy as if  to say…”Look at this machine…and look at yours. Who are you to pull in front of ME and slow ME down?”

At that  moment, you see the back end of the Camaro lower a bit and you hear the unbelievable and deafening growl of  power as  the two toned bondo and duct taped Camaro jets past the little sports car like it was sitting still. Of course, the  young  man was to have nothing of that. He revved his ride to its max but the little 4 cylinder the young man was  sporting in his  tricked out Stang just didn’t have the umph…to keep up with the seasoned hot rodder. Not to mention  the Mustang was  in need of a tune up and oil change.  His car looked super sweet on the outside but seriously lacked  fortitude on the  inside. Come to find out, the old guy in the Camaro just finished restoring the powerhouse 500HP V8 engine on his 1969 ZL1 Camaro. Even if the kid had a Shelby Cobra, he wasn’t going to catch him. But you would have  never guessed  the Camaro had that kind of engine from looking at it.

I got to tell you, I am big fan of the Star Wars movies…not so much of the new ones but definitely of the original 3 and especially the first one, episode IV: A New Beginning. One of the best quotes in the entire movie, and there were a few good ones, came from Han Solo, of course played by Harrison Ford, when he responded to Luke Skywalker’s “observation and comment” of Solo’s ship the Millennium Falcon…it’s classic!: “She’s not much to look at…but she has it where it counts, kid.” I dig that quote and have used it often myself. Yes…I’m dating myself. But that’s ok. They don’t make good movies like that anymore. But that’s a subject for another day.

“Not much to look at but has it where it counts, kid.” How many times have we heard that the heart, not the outer appearance, of a person is what is important to God? All throughout scripture, God makes it very clear that what is on the inside counts much more than what is on the outside. Think about when Samuel passed the news that David, the youngster and not one of his older more outwardly appealing brothers, would be king of Israel… What did God say? “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7 NIV).

More for our conversation here was Christ’s admonishment of the Pharisee he was dining with, as told in Luke 11 and Matthew 23, regarding the vast difference between his and the other Pharisees’ outward appearance and… “what was under the hood.” Jesus said in Matthew 23:26-28, “Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.”

Too often we are more concerned with how we look to others than how we look to God. And I am going to go ahead and make a bunch of people mad but too often, our churches and those inside look, using our story from the interstate, more like the beautiful than the bondoed. Which one would you say you are? Which one would others say you are? And we wonder why our words and our actions don’t impact others…at least not in the way God would want. Here’s the harsh reality folks: People can see through the façade of playing the part of “Christian”. More times than I would like to admit I have heard the word “hypocrite” associated with Christians and the church. I have heard that both inside and outside the church. Of course, not every church body or group of believers is this way…too many are. You’ve seen them…visited them. Let’s start focusing on what God sees as important. He clearly tells us that if we clean up the inside…the outside will also be clean. If we are going to impact the lives of others for His kingdom, we must adopt an inside out focus rather than an outside in.

We’ll continue the Road Trip 2014 series next month. Until then…Keep it Real…Radical…Relentless…Relevant. Rock On…& Armor Up!

Hello, March! Can you believe it? We’re almost through with the first quarter of 2014. Unbelievable. I hope the year is going well for you, so far. And while winter seems to want to hang around way too long for much of the US, some of the country is thawing out…Thank You, Lord! March means that baseball has begun, March Madness is upon us, 95% of us deny our actual ancestral origin and become Irish as St. Patrick’s Day and green shamrocks abound, and convertible tops are once again checked and serviced in preparation for Spring…and Road Trips!

As we continue our Road Trip 2014 series, we’ve come to the part that is the hardest for many of us…me included. We have thought about what we would like to do and, more importantly, what we need and are called to do. Now comes the hardest part…DOING it. Literally stepping out of the boat…walking out of the door, getting in the car, starting it, putting it in reverse, actually backing out of the driveway, and then putting it into gear and hitting the road. It’s the point of no return. You know, I think of it like standing high above a body of water…any body of water. You say to yourself, “Man that water looks good. I’m jumpin’ in.” As you admire the glisten of the water below, your mind cranks up and hits warp drive immediately. “Dude, this is gonna be awesome! Wait a minute! Am I nuts? That water’s gonna be freezing! What if there’s a rock right beneath the surface? Is this really necessary? I mean…What’s it gonna prove? But I really want to. Man…what a rush it’s gonna be. Okay…I’m doin’ it.” Here it is…the decision….the point of no return. It’s time to put up or shut up. You have got do decide whether you jump, or not, knowing that once you leave your feet and you’re over the water there is no turning back. Let’s say you jump. Splash! WOW! Man, that is really cold! (Fret not, gents. I’m not going any further.) But it was really awesome! Yes, it may be a bit uncomfortable at first but after a while your body gets acclimated, and, it feels pretty good. In fact, you are glad you jumped in. It all starts with effort…action.

Anything we do in life takes effort or action, of some sort, on our part. Even breathing requires an exertion of energy. Some things are easier than others and some things we are more apt to exert more effort in doing. Let’s see. Guys, how many of us would say that more effort is made to get to the speedway, the golf course, or the ball field at 7:00 am on Saturday morning than is made to get to church at 11:00 am on Sunday? Ouch. Told you we would be hitting some truths pretty hard. Hey, most of us, if we’re honest, will admit we are guilty at some time or another. But I’m not here to throw holy bombs. I’m probably more guilty than most. Nevertheless, life requires effort and action.

God is always working on me and in my life…on all three facets – professional, personal, and private. Much of His work has come with little or no action required from me. However, there is quite a bit that requires me to do something. I pray daily that God will open and close doors as He sees fit. I pray that prayer with the full understanding that when He opens a door, He expects me to go through it. I’m really honest with you when I say there are times that I don’t. Thank goodness for grace. How often do we pray for something, for God to open a door, and then sit back and wait…and wait…and wait? While all the time the door was wide open. He was waiting for us to go through. It’s like praying day in and day out to win the lottery. Then one day we hear a voice say, “Buy a ticket.” I have never had the Holy Spirit literally pick me up by my belt loop and throw through a door that God has opened. I have to go through it myself. The cool thing about going through a God opened door is that we may go through with one perspective or expectation and what God has planned is completely different. Of course, we don’t realize how cool it is at the time. It sometimes takes a while to see it. But when you love the Lord, put your life in His hands, and allow Him to guide your steps, hindsight is pretty clear…and awesome. All those situations and circumstances that you thought were bad, painful, or completely whacked, many of them I’m sure were flat out awful, actually brought you to the exact place you needed to be…at the exact time…fully prepared and equipped to receive the blessing of your life. Now that rocks!

Let’s now take it a few steps further and from a different perspective. Up to now, all of the focus has been on us…the blessings we get from acting on God’s promptings and going through doors He opens. What about all those around us – our families, friends, coworkers, neighbors, etc…? How does our responding to God’s call impact them…or others we may never even meet? What legacy do we leave? We might never know. But think about this. What, perhaps, would have happened if Abraham had not acted on God’s calling to pack up all he had and to take his family, leave his people and his country, and set out to parts unknown (Gen. 12)? What about Noah, before that (Gen. 6)? If he had not taken action and built the ark (let us not forget that he built it in the middle of the desert) where would we be? Let me bring it a little closer to home. What if all of the pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and believers in Christ throughout history hadn’t, at some point, acted on God’s prompting and call? Would you, or I, or people around the world ever have come to know or be shown the incredible love of God? Would you and I be visiting here together, today? Makes you think, doesn’t it?

So, hit the road. Go through the doors that God opens. Regardless of whether it makes sense or not…because often times it won’t. And, what we think we want…or don’t want…may not necessarily be what God wants for us. His plan is perfect and He knows exactly what He is doing. And what He is doing is the best for us…regardless of how many times we throw a look of utter confusion heavenward. If you have any doubts, pick up His Word. He gives us countless passages of reassurance. One of my favorites, which is also our family verse, is Jeremiah 29:11(NIV), “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” What an awesome God we serve.

Welcome to February, the short month of the year. But, despite what every other human being on earth likely believes, February is the true beginning of the year. I can already see the wrinkles on your forehead. January, while actually the first month of the calendar year, is really the “recover from Christmas, New Years, and extended time off, trying to get back in the saddle at work as well as adopting a healthy lifestyle, again, finding myself making the  same New Year’s resolutions as last year, still writing 2013 on everything, getting the kids back in school, and taking steps to make this the best year ever and realizing I don’t have the energy or the time to revamp everything so I’ll press forward as is” month. It usually takes a full 31 days to go through the aforementioned cycle but we do get through it, by God’s grace, and usually with a much better and more realistic perspective. That brings us to February. Now, on to 2014 and “The Road Trip”.  We talked last month that in order to truly experience the divine appointments and experiences God has for us, we have to go where Jesus is…out of the boat and into the waves. We have to get out of the house and on the road. But first…we must prepare.

Whether you believe it or not, God is always at work in our lives and truly wants to be a part of every minute aspect of it. God’s word says, “In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.” Proverbs 16:9 (NIV). The harsh reality here guys is that despite our best efforts and desires, we are NOT in control? Think about all the plans we make during, and for, our lives.  As many of us know all too well, a plan’s first brush with reality often ends in failure. Failure according to our perspective, that is, not God’s. For the trip, we check the weather, consider traffic patterns, etc… However, there is no way to plan for the unexpected occurrences that will inevitably happen along the way. I have hundreds of examples of things that have happened to me while “on the road”. I have no doubt you do as well. And since we cannot foresee everything that will happen to us during our trip, we have to get prepared. The key is not simply to plan. The key is to plan properly. Hint: Taking planning advice from the One who does know what is going to happen to us is the smart thing to do. More on that in a minute.

One of the many things I learned while in the Marine Corps was the concept of The 7 P’s: Proper Prior Planning Prevents P— Poor Performance. For most audiences and applications, the 6 P’s are more than adequate. You just have to love my beloved Corpsfolded-road-map and the colorful expressions…hence the 7. Back to planning. For our trip, the destination, conditions, and duration will determine the appropriate gear needed…appropriate being the operative term. Having the right gear will keep us from being forced to create some crazy, but no doubt colorful, story about why we packed what we did or didn’t pack what we should have. Been there…done that…got the t-shirt. We must be as prepared as possible in order to be able to handle whatever comes our way, both good and bad.

God has incredible things in store for us during our trip. However, not acknowledging that there are two sides to the coin is about as smart as only looking one way before stepping out into heavy traffic. In addition to the awesome experiences and blessings that happen while on the road, there are road blocks, detours, delays, potholes, accidents, and overall disappointments. God’s word is the ultimate guide to trip preparation. Through Paul’s letter to the Ephesians, God provided sound instruction on how to prepare, each day, for the trip.

The following prayer, based on Ephesians 6:10-18, was given to me years ago. And despite my search for many years, I have yet been unable to identify the author. But I truly want to thank him/her as it has impacted my life tremendously…as well as countless lives across the country and around the world. This prayer was a driving force in the creation of the Armor Up rally cry and will always be a mainstay in the Servant Warrior® ammo box. So…”Thank You”.  Nevertheless, I will continue to humbly ask for forgiveness as I distribute it and share it anywhere and everywhere.

armor of god modified“Father, today by faith in Jesus, I put on the (1) BELT OF TRUTH. I thank You today that I know who I am in Christ – a child of God whose name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Lord, I want to by faith put on the (2) BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS to help me react to situations and people the way You want me to, not the way I may want to. Before I wake up, Lord, put on my feet the (3) BOOTS of the GOSPEL OF PEACE that I may be used by You to share Your love with others. Father, I take up the (4) SHIELD OF FAITH knowing as I place my trust in You today, You will protect me from the devil’s attacks and not allow anything to touch me. Lord, I also put on the (5) HELMET OF SALVATION. Protect my thinking from things that don’t line up with Your will. Father, I arm myself with the (6) SWORD OF THE SPIRIT which is YOUR WORD. This is my only offensive weapon but it is also defensive so that when Satan attacks me, I am armed and ready to repel all of his arrows. The victory has already been won. I march today under that great victory flag, washed by the blood, armed with the Word, dressed in the armor of righteousness, believing and thanking You for what You are going to do. Lord, I pray today that I recognize the enemy and claim VICTORY as I am properly prepared to face every challenge by Your overcoming, almighty power. In Jesus name. Amen. Ephesians 6:10-18.”

I encourage you, daily, to pray it for yourself. You can also replace the “I’s” with “We’s” and pray it over your family, friends, co-workers, teammates, classmates, etc…

Being properly prepared allows us to experience fully and recognize God’s providence in all of the things that will happen while on the road. Rain, while difficult to drive in, fosters a rainbow when it’s finished. And detours, while usually inconvenient and annoying, can reveal a much preferable route with breathtaking scenery, unforgettable experiences, or both. Besides, how boring would it be if all our travels were filled with blue skies, warm winds, open roads, and no speed traps?  Until next time…Keep it Real…Radical…Relentless…Relevant…and Armor Up every day!

Happy New Year, all. I know I’m a little late as this is finding its way to you a week into the new year…but nevertheless, I hope everyone survived the Christmas holidays. For you football fans, I hope that your team either won, continues to win, hopes to win, or that you have come to grips with the fact that no matter how much you screamed at the television, the refs, or both, painted your face, wore the colors, donned the rally caps, prayed for a fumble, or all of the above, you had little or no control over the loss and you will live…maybe. For those of you who are not football fans, it is absolutely okay. In fact, you just may be better off than those of us who are.

Back to the matter at hand. It’s January and the start of the New Year…2014. We have the perfect opportunity to make this year all that we wanted last year to be.  If last year was everything you wanted, great. Make this year even better. If last year was less than optimal, what caused the wheels to come off? Where did it happen? How much of it was you? How much was simply circumstance? How much of it was molding, preparation, and forging? If you determine it was more you than anything… what road did you take that lead you to a place that perhaps you shouldn’t have been? What left did you take when right was the way to go? Did you lean on your own sense of navigational ability or did you use a GPS? And if you used a GPS, did the “G” stand for “global” or “God”? Was the device a Garmin or a Bible? How did you get to where you are? Are you catching a theme here?

Many of us remember the days of road trips. And many of us still enjoy them. Perhaps in a different way than before…but enjoy them nonetheless, we do. Oh, the stories we have…but will never share no matter how many bamboo shoots are shoved under our finger nails or how many times you make us listen to Milli Vanilli! Ouch! And the bamboo would hurt, too. Some of my greatest memories, as well as some of the most embarrassing, exhilarating, joyous, scary, spiritual, inspired and tragic moments happened during some type of road excursion. I am sure many of you can relate. While memories were certainly made and experiences realized once a destination was reached, often the trip began with no particular destination in mind at all. You simply gathered the guys together (sometimes ‘gathered’ was the operative term as late night extractions were not uncommon), made the announcement, jumped in the car (or were thrown into the car as a result of the extraction), and went. It was all about the trip…the journey…the ride.

Life happens on the road…outside the house. If we want to experience everything God has in store for us, we HAVE to leave the safe confines of our homes… our places of safety… our man caves! These safe havens are not necessarily brick and mortar structures. They are our jobs, our lifestyles, our habits, our priorities, our attitudes, our perspectives, our friends.  Confusion has set in, hasn’t it? You’re thinking, “I completely get the ‘If I have a destructive or bad habit, my priorities are whacked, or if I have friends that lean toward the rough side that I need to make a change.’ But, if the above mentioned “safe places” are not necessarily bad, destructive, some may even be good, why would I want or need to leave them?” Bottom line: If something – a safe place – is keeping us from what God has in store for our lives, regardless of whether it’s good or even if we think it is, it’s dirt we need to shake. Don’t misunderstand me here. I’m not telling anyone to leave a job, a commitment, or a family. Far from it. I’m saying we need to remove the governor from the engine and let it fly. We need to blow the cobwebs from the carburetor and experience God’s highway of blessings! The road piccool thing is, when we go out on our road trips, we get to come back to that safe place. We get to come back home.  Often the experiences we have on the road have a significant impact on how we view things…some positively…some negatively. But there’s no way we aren’t changed in some way by what we experience as a result of being on life’s highway.

I have heard it many times and it is certainly worth repeating here, ‘If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat.” Let’s modify it to fit our road trip theme, “If we want God’s ‘Route 66’ experience, we have to get out of the house and hit the road.” Why is that? When Peter left the boat and stepped onto the water, who  was there? You got it. Jesus. If we want to experience a life that is full of divine appointments and experiences, we have to go where Jesus is. We have to get out of the boat. We have to leave the safe places and hit the road.

So, we are “Hittin’ The Road” in 2014. We are going to look at things from life outside the house.  We are going to look at life “from the road”.  We are going to challenge some perspectives. We are going to face some hard truths and hit some things head one…figuratively, of course. We are going to be real, relevant, relentless in our pursuit, and definitely Jesus Freak’ish radical. And we are going on this trip together. Are you with me? I’ll be honest with you. There’s a lot that I need to work on. I need to work on being a better husband, a better dad, a better servant, a better follower of Christ. I know that if I focus on the latter, the former will have a much better chance of happening. It has to be less about me and more about Him. But I also know I can’t go at it alone. And why would I want to? It’s just like with a road trip. It could be done as a solo venture but where’s the fun in that? The best part about any excursion is who’s with you on it. So…Come on. Let’s go. I’m not sure when we’ll get back but I can tell you it will be a trip for the ages. Get in and buckle up. By the way…“Are we there yet?” Sorry. I couldn’t resist.  Until next time…Rock On…& Armor Up!

Hello, July. Summer is in full swing…vacations have ensued…Independence Day and all that goes along with it is upon us…and it is likely that school or anything that has to do with learning is farthest from our minds.

It has been said that “knowledge is power.” Actually, I think a more accurate statement is “the use of knowledge is powerful.” Knowledge by itself is like the sharpest ax in the world. It is absolutely useless unless someone swings it. Many of us find ourselves on this relentless quest for knowledge…in the acquisition of educational degrees, through books, training seminars, infomercials, etc… We believe that the more we know, the more we learn, the better we will be. Getting an education, preparing for one’s future, learning the particulars of an industry, product, job, etc…is essential to being successful and effective in many aspects of both an educational and professional environment. However, this knowledge is not the foundation by which God calls us in our lives. It seems the smarter we get by the world’s standards, the more capable we feel we are to analyze God’s Word, sometimes question its validity, demand scientific evidence and proof, or simply think we are too smart to believe in God and His Word. All throughout the Bible-treasure-chest the perils are revealed, from God’s perspective, of being “wise in our own eyes” and of the arrogance that often comes with worldly knowledge.

Proverbs 1:7 tells us “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,…” God does not tell us not to become knowledgeable about the world. He tells us not to become rooted in it. “For the wisdom of the world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their craftiness.’” (1 Cor 3:19) We have the instructions: “…and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.”(Prov 2:3-6). Rather than filtering God’s Word through worldly knowledge, try filtering worldly knowledge through God’s Word. I think you will be surprised at the perspective shift.

Lord, your Word tells me that You and your love are the root of all knowledge, wisdom, insight, and understanding. And that wisdom and understanding are worth more than gold and silver. There is so much pressure on being seen as an authority on this or an authority on that…to learn this or that…all things based on man’s perspective. You tell me if I seek first your kingdom, the things I need will be given to me. Lord, thank you for your faithfulness as I need wisdom and discernment. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

As we celebrate our country’s 237 years of independence, we humbly thank those who have rung and continue to ring the bell of freedom through the selfless giving of their blood and sacrifice. That bell rings due to the blood and lives of patriots…not by the swing of a sledgehammer. May God continue to bless the United States of America.

Until next time, keep it Real…Radical…Relentless…Relevant…and every day… Armor Up!

Hello, June. Unbelievable…2013 is almost half over. If you told me on January 1, 2013 that the circumstances around the Searcy household would be what they are, here on June 1, 2013, I would have said…well…something in the ballpark of “Wha’chu talkin ‘bout Willis?” If you’re old enough to remember the ‘Different Strokes’ reference…it always feels good to bring something fun back from the past, doesn’t it? And if you are old enough to remember…smile. We’re just getting…better…better looking…and wiser. If you’re not, don’t worry. Let me translate the reference for you. It means: “I’m sorry, but I think we have a serious misunderstanding, here. Either you are mistaken about who you are talking to or you are mistaken about what you are talking about. I do, however, want to give you the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps you are not feeling well…having a difficult time communicating…something…because if you said what I think you said…you’re out of your mind.” Now, I know that sounds a bit harsh but I certainly don’t mean to. I want to make sure you get the full translational impact.

I absolutely believe that God allows difficulties and trials in our lives to test our faith…to mold us into the people He requires us to be in order to fulfill His call on our lives…and to remind us of just how little control we actually have. I believe He allows them in order to give us the chance to put our “faith” money where our “faith” mouth is. But how do we really do it? Handle things when our circumstances get…well…tough, I mean. when-the-going-gets-tough1

We have all heard the saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” It is right up there with “Pull yourself up by your boot straps.” We, especially guys, are very familiar with these sayings and attitudes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this type of relentless approach and tenacity when facing obstacles, hardships, or challenges. How many times have we tried to take things on ourselves, in our own strength, and come up short? How do we feel? Inadequate?  Weak?  Not up to the challenge? Even the fastest race car and most formidable earth mover machines don’t finish strong without fuel and/or the right operator. I’ve never heard of something that can move tons of earth with ease referred to as ‘weak’ or ‘inadequate”. And neither are you. Jesus Christ said “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Cor 12:9. Don’t feel you have to take on the challenges of life alone or in your own strength. Let the Omnipresent and Omnipotent God work through you and on your behalf.

Maybe you are going through difficulties or trials right now. Perhaps difficulties and trials have been around so long you’re not quite sure if the light at the end of the tunnel is the end of the valley or a Greyhound bus. And if the trials have been around long enough…either end of the tunnel result is acceptable. But in all seriousness, we are to be grateful for the trials. I know that sounds absolutely ridiculous but God is all about going against rational, logical, mainstream thought. He loves us so much that He wants to mold us, prepare us, shape us into the people He wants so we can do that which He has called us to do. God is much more concerned with our character than with our comfort. “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4 NIV.

God is also all about us not having to go through the difficulties and trials on our own…in our own strength. I challenge you to lean on God and ask Him to help you with your challenges, difficulties, trials and obstacles. For many of you who find it hard to let go of things or feel the need to maintain control, rest in the fact that the Almighty is up for the task. He wants to show you how faithful and capable He is.

Father, I am so thankful that You care about the challenges and struggles in my life. I know they help mold me to be the person You’ve called me to be. I am also thankful that you are capable of handling anything and faithful to never let me down. Please give me the strength, Lord, to allow you to work through me and on my behalf. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Until next time, keep it Real…Radical…Relentless…Relevant…and Armor Up!
